Overcoming Industry Challenges, Truma AquaGo Becomes a Market Leader

After only three years in the North American RV market, the German based company, Truma has become the standard for instant water heaters for RVs with the Truma AquaGo

During this time, Truma has worked hard to overcome negative perceptions about tankless RV water systems arising from multiple recalls of first and second generation products that were previously on the market.

President and CEO of Truma, Gerhard Hundsberger said, “Some early generation tankless water heaters produced water temperature fluctuations leading to scalding complaints. In contrast, our engineers at Truma have designed a hybrid instant water heating system that is completely different from other RV water heaters and was developed specifically to help maintain a stable and constant water temperature. It is also the only instant water heater that can maintain a constant temperature at a very low flow rate.”

The Truma AquaGo features a small mixing vessel with cyclonic action to deliver a steady temperature of precisely heated water that goes right to the faucet, preventing significant temperature fluctuations. The result is an endless supply of hot water without the potential for scalding. “Ultimately”, says Hundsberger, “all of this helps RVers put an end to what is known in the camping world as the navy shower, the term for a military style shower that is performed quickly to conserve hot water.”

Hundsberger believes that instant (or tankless) water heaters will be the norm in future North American RVs. He says, “RVers want smart, easy-to-use, advanced products in their RVs and don’t want to settle for inconveniences and discomforts like the navy shower experience. Campgrounds generally provide full hookups, but the majority of RVs built in North America still use tank water heaters that hold limited amounts of hot water. Our unit is efficient and fast and the Truma AquaGo comfort plus ensures that minimal water is wasted while dry camping.”

Says Hundsberger, “We are pleased that so many RV manufacturers in the USA and Canada are installing our system. When the Truma AquaGo was introduced, it was adopted as a luxury item for high-end RVs. Now it is being used more commonly with mainstream RVs and trailers as OEMs realize they can offer an at-home shower experience in their RVs. Having hot water instantly, whenever they need it is especially attractive to people who live in their RV for extended periods of time and to families where several people may need to shower or use hot water at the same time. We are also seeing increasing numbers of RV owners retrofitting their RVs with the Truma AquaGo,” he said.

“The Truma AquaGo is changing the way OEMs and dealers view on-demand water systems. Now it’s important for us to continue educating RV owners about the differences of a hybrid system so they no longer have to settle for a navy shower and they do not have to worry about the temperature fluctuations associated with early tankless designs,” said Hundsberger.

Truma recently conducted a field study where RVers took showers in an RV equipped with a Truma AquaGo and gave feedback comparing the AquaGo shower to their typical shower routine. Those testimonials made it clear that AquaGo users love the idea of endless hot water and are willing to pay a little more to have that convenience.
